Introduction to the cellar

From 1138, the Knights Templar owned excellent vineyards around the town. Nowadays, too, in the Enclave of the Popes and particularly at Richerenches, the vine, together with the culture of truffles, remains the principal farming activity.

It was in 1966 that the wine growers of Richerenches decided to set up a wine-making cooperative in order to better control the grape harvest and its processing and to publicise more widely the special characteristics of their wine-growing area.

Certain neighbouring wine growers joined them in their efforts.

It is thus that, in the autumn of 1967, for the first time a hundred wine growers got together to harvest their grapes and make wine. The last wine-making cooperative in the valley of the Rhône had been born !

Nowadays, nearly 145 members of the cooperative produce more than 45,000 hectolitres of wine from 1000 hectares of vineyards.

Situated within the Cellar, the wine-tasting bar, created in 1989, is a pleasant and welcoming place. Here, the many visitors, glass in hand, can appreciate the subtle flavours and the complex tastes of our wines.

A picnic area is available for the use and enjoyment of our customers.
